Journey to the Source-2 |
For the fourth year in a row, Allah (S.W.T.) gave a group of new Muslims an invitation to visit His House in Makkah and the Masjid of His last Messenger in Madinah. I have been privileged to lead the group on the “Journey to the Source”. This year the group was made of 45 individuals: 23 Muslims by birth and 22 New Muslims; 8 of the 23 were either Mahaarem to, or children of some of the 22 New Muslims, who consisted of 12 males and 10 females.
Without much publicity, I was pleasantl ... |

Journey to the Source-1. |
Dear Brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters,
Assalamu Alaikum,
Many of you wrote me expressing their feelings about our "Journey to the Source." Rather than sending individual responses, I thought of sending this email telling all of you how much I have been thanking Allah subhanahu wata'alah for granting me the privilege of accompanying all of you on this memorable journey. It is not an assumption, but a proven reality, that no one but Allah alone made our trip possible. Logi ... |

The Rite of Passage |
The recurrence of natural disasters and violent climate phenomena has left many people with some very difficult questions that demand balanced answers which are free of emotional biases. How can one reconcile God’s mercy with the scale of destruction of such disasters? Is it a coincidence or a divine plan that poor nations are targeted the most? Are these disasters an indication of divine punishment for human transgression, or are they tests and tribulations that result in more empa ... |

Thank You God Very Much:
A Critique of Ronald Aronson’s Article, ’Thank Who Very Much?’
Let us put our journey in life into proper perspective and ask some important questions: Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we heading? What is really important about our lives? What is life and what is death? These are mysteries that we need to solve if we are ever to understand our purpose in the universe.
There has never been throughout human existence an issue that raise ... |

Medical Implications of Fasting |
It cannot be overemphasized that the main objective of fasting is to become God-fearing (i.e. achieving Taqwa). Muslims believe that a human being is made up of a body and a ‘rooh’ (soul). One should, therefore, take care of the needs of both components without favouring one over the other. Muslims are required to take good care of their bodies by not neglecting their health, by giving the body the rest it needs, by staying clean and fit and by avoiding bad habits like smoking, for exa ... |

WHY DO WE LOVE PROPHET MUHAMMAD (p.b.u.h) ? |
Whenever the month of Rabi'ul Awal comes around, Muslims feel the urge to rejuvenate the love they feel towards Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.). Despite its spontaneity, our love for the final prophet is much more than an emotional outburst of emotions; it is a firm commitment on our part for everything he embodies. Obedience is so much more meaningful when surrounded by a compliment of unconditional love to the one we are supposed to obey. The well known mystic Rabi'ah Al-Adawiyyah tie ... |

Happy Mother’s day...Happy Father’s Day |
I am aware that the title of my article will elicit polarized opinions even before reading the text. It is unfortunate that contrary to Islamic teachings, Muslims are known to be quite opinionated in regard to issues that are not directly dealt with in the Qur’an or the Sunnah. Muslims have fallen victims to a maze of religious verdicts (fatwas) that have been issued over the years by unqualified individuals, thus diluting the efficacy of authentic verdicts, and resulting in unnecess ... |

Al-Nakbah: The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine |
On March 10th, 1948, a group of eleven Zionist leaders met in a red house in what now is the city of Tel Aviv. They put the final touches to a plan for the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. Once the decision was taken, it took six months to complete their mission. When it was over, close to a million Palestinians had been uprooted in one of the largest forced migrations in modern history. They were expelled from their homes at gunpoint. Any civilians who posed a threat to the plan were ma ... |

Causes of Differences among Scholars of Islamic Jurisprudence |

Chapter 5
Causes of Differences among Scholars of Islamic Jurisprudence
Scholars differed in determining the causes of their differences. Among them, are those who discussed such causes in detail, while others tried to avoid dealing with them. As a result, we will mention the most important agreed upon causes.
Cause #1: Different Readings of the Qur’anic Text
Among the most important causes of differences among jurists, are the different readings of a certain Qur’anic text. Some r ... |

Mother's Day |
If attachment to one’s mother is an indication of childhood, then I will never be able to grow up. I am not the youngest among my siblings, yet I am awarded the exclusive rights of being mom’s baby. At 46, some may think that it may be embarrassing to make such a statement. But the truth is that even after 17 years of my mother’s passage to the world of eternity, I still miss her.
Mothers are God’s gift to humanity. Some are allowed more time to enjoy those gifts than others. ... |

Hajj - Pilgrimage |
The Islamic calendar year 1421 is coming to an end. As you are reading these lines, close to 100 London area Muslims are joining the 2.5 million pilgrims in their descent on the plains of mount Arafat.
Pilgrimage (Hajj) is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is ordained that adult Muslims, who are physically and financially able, must perform Hajj at least once in their lifetime. The word Hajj means a resolve to visit a holy place. “God has made it an obligation for all people ... |
